Bengaluru-based emotion recognition startup Entropik has raised $200K in Seed funding from a group of angels. The angel investors who participated in the round included Dileep Bhatt, President of downstream operations, JSW Steel Ltd, and Milind Chaudhary, Director, Sea Global Services Pvt. Ltd.

The raised funds will be used to ramp up its research and development efforts and get more customers on board.

Entropik was launched in February 2016 by Bharat Singh Shekhawat and Ranjan Kumar. The company makes software that helps app developers track the emotions and context of their users on the basis of data from their smartphone or wearable’s accelerometer and pressure sensors.

It utilises behavioural analysis, data and, and mobile interaction to measure a user’s gesture. It even merges human science & art so that the interface can talk. The applications enable companies in different segments to build better products by providing analytics, recommendations, and user profiles, based on how and when end users interact with apps.

The emotions are measured on the basis of metrics such as swipe speed, delay between swipes, swipe pressure, user’s posture, location of the user and more. As claimed by the firm, the accuracy of their predictions is 80%.

“We are building technology to transform machines (smartphones/wearable devices) into not just a utility, but a transmitter of emotional and context expression by using touch as a key method. Our patented technology uses advanced machine learning algorithms to recognize patterns of emotional engagement from data collected through user touch patterns, motion analytics & behavioural gestures. Further, we are building new means of interaction using these insights.” This statement is mentioned on the company’s AngelList profile page.

Entropik has also filed patents in India and the US for its technology. According to the company, this technology will help in increasing app usage and user retention. Currently available on Android and iOS, the Entropik’s software development kit can be integrated to the company’s app.

Other similar startups in this space are Voconow, Wazzat, iLenze, Mad Street Den, etc.
