EdCast Acquires Microsoft Ventures Alumni WAGmob

Online learning platform EdCast Inc has acquired Seattle-based sales training app maker Sales-University, initially called WAGmob, for an undisclosed amount, to expand its enterprise learning to Sales organisations.

Sales-University, is a Microsoft Venture’s alumni who has their India operations out of Indore. It is based in Seattle, founded in Madhya Pradesh, India by Kalpit Jain and Kavita Jain. The founders were both at Microsoft, but came back to India in 2010 to set up WAGmob, building consumer facing apps in the field of education. They evolved gradually into a Sales Training company.

The need for a social learning solution for Sales organisations is a $20 Bn market opportunity. Currently, the user-base of Sales-University includes Google, Samsung, Snapdeal and a few Fortune 500 companies. Sales University has over 300 mobile apps for learning and training for iOS, Android and Windows and has over 4 Mn consumers.

On the other hand, EdCast was founded in 2013 by serial entrepreneur Karl Mehta  It is a knowledge network built to inspire, empower & educate individuals, teams and organisations to get smarter with daily curated & contextual bite-size insights with live access to influencers and Subject Matter Experts.

Prior to this, in April 2016, Edcast raised $16 Mn in Series B round of funding led by G.E. Asset Management. The round also saw participation from SoftBank Capital, Cervin Ventures, Stanford StartX Fund and Penta Global.

Other startups operating in this sector include MasterClass, Degreed, HotChalk, Udacity, and Coursera among others.
