Bangalore-based online medical consultation platform, DocsApp, has raised $1.2 Mn in seed funding from Facebook’s angel investors Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan, along with Japanese Venture Capital firm Rebright Partners.

Founded in 2015 by IIT Madras Alumni Satish Kannan and Enbasekar D, DocsApp is an online doctor consultation app that connects doctors to the patients in real time. The app allows patients to chat with the doctors and share pictures and reports of the ailment privately.

Satish Kannan, co-founder and CEO of DocsApp said that with close to 200 Mn smartphone users and the increasing mobile penetration into rural areas, it is convenient to provide high quality primary healthcare services to people across India. He added, “It’s estimated that up to 70% of the commonest health issues people face can be managed online for which the patient doesn’t need to travel to doctors. We want to bridge the gap between patients and doctors through this platform so that people can get expert consultation on demand.”

With the newly raised capital, DocsApp aims to develop technology, expand their operations and recruit talent.

DocsApp records over 80,000 app downloads with more than 15,000 patients taking consultation every month. It claims to have about a network of 500 doctors specialising in nine categories like Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Paediatrics, Weight Management, Sexology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, and Hair & Scalp care.

Speaking about investment in DocsApp, Anand Rajaraman & Venky Harinarayan said, “The DocsApp team has created an amazing app that combines whiz-bang technology with specialist doctors to enable speedy doctor consultations and great patient outcomes. This app will revolutionize primary healthcare in India!”

The investment round was led by Rebright Partners and Takeshi Ebihara, Founding General Partner of Rebright Partners said, “The team has a great understanding of the healthcare space and it is a scalable business model that can service millions of patients across India and SouthEast Asia.”
