Bangalore-based Cult, a fitness startup focused on training programmes without using traditional gym equipment, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Mukesh Bansal, former head of Flipkart‘s commerce platform and Myntra’s co-founder, reported TOI.

Founded in 2015 by Rishabh Telang and his brother-in-law Deepak Poduval, Cult, offers a mix of martial arts, yoga and outdoor activities. It is a gym that does not have treadmills or all-in-one fitness machines. It contains a boxing rings, jump ropes, boxing bags, tyres/hammer, speed chutes, resistance bands, and plyometric boxes.

“We don’t have a single treadmill or any other fancy gym equipment. Instead, we have got certified trainers to provide special attention to every member for the curated exercises at our facility,” said Telang.

Situated in the centre of suburbs of Bangalore, the startup plans to open a few more in the city before expanding in other metro cities. Bansal said, “This is a unique and interesting idea in the space of fitness. I have personally trained here and realise the potential it has to offer. They are looking to expand within and outside of Bangalore with the fresh capital.”

The investment comes within days of Bansal announcing a new venture in the healthcare and fitness space along with former Flipkart colleague Ankit Nagori. Both Bansal and Nagori had quit Flipkart in February this year.

Other startups in the space generally offer monthly and daily subscriptions in fitness studios and gyms. Fitternity, Orobind and Gympik are some of the fitness-focused startups.
