Collegedunia Raises $444K In Pre-Series A Round

Delhi-based educational search engine for colleges, courses and exams across India, Collegedunia, has raised $444K (INR 3 Cr) in pre-Series A round of funding from its existing investor, Umang Kumar, co-founder and CEO of Gaadi.com.

Sahil Chalana, founder of Collegedunia said, “Following the pre-Series A round, the company is preparing to raise close to $5 Mn (INR 33 Cr). We currently get about 30,000 unique visitors a day and we’d like to scale that up to 70,000 in the coming months before we go into our next round of investments.”

Launched in 2014 by Sahil Chalana, Collegedunia is an extensive search engine for the students, parents, and education industry players who seek information on the higher education sector in India and abroad. The website lists 20000 colleges from the fields of Management, Engineering, Law, Arts, Medical, Aviation, Agriculture and more. The portal provides information on areas like fee, placement, alumni record, rankings, awards and extracurricular activities.

The site has NIIT Group, Educomp Business Schools, NMIMS, Alliance Business School and IDP Global as its clients. The company has about 75 employees, a majority of whom are into content generation and data research.

The education industry in India has seen the advent of many online portals catering to the preparation of competition exams for the students. Lately, there are startups like Coursera, U Education and iNurture Education, which have been launched to provide information about various colleges and courses available at variable destinations.

According to a report by EY, the Indian higher education sector has undergone a massive expansion to become the largest in the world, enrolling over 70 Mn students.

Prior to this, the company had raised $147K (INR 1 Cr) in funding from affiliate marketing Company 3.14 Digital, Umang Kumar, and a few other investors.
