Edtech startup Byju’s has raised $75 Mn from Sequoia India and Belgium-based investment firm Sofina.

Founded in 2011 by Byju Raveendran, Byju’s offers learning programmes for class 6-12 & test preparation for JEE, AIPMT, CAT, IAS, GRE & GMAT. It launched BYJU’s – The Learning App in 2015, and already has over 2.5 Mn downloads and 120,000 paid annual subscribers.

Byju’s Learning App makes use of original content, watch-and-learn videos, rich animations and interactive simulations that make learning contextual and visual. The app adapts to the learning style of each student, inviting them to explore different concepts and suggest a learning footprint for the student, which can also address any gaps in learning. The company aims to inspire a lifelong love for learning.

The latest funding will enable Byju’s to deliver content in a radically new format, expand its product pipeline and to enter new markets.

GV Ravishankar, Managing Director, Sequoia Capital India Advisors, said, “At Sequoia we have always partnered with people with disruptive ideas and big vision. What excites us about Byju is not just the market potential but also his sheer commitment and passion to democratize access to education in India in a way that’s never been done before.”

Earlier this month, Mumbai-based Edtech startup, Testbook raised an undisclosed amount of funding from publishing house S. Chand and Company. Other players in this segment include Avagmah, iProf, Meritnation, Simplilearn, Englishleap, etc.
