Mumbai-based domestic help aggregator, BookMyBai.com, has raised over $150K (INR 1 Cr) from 50k Ventures and a group of angel investors led by Vineel Nalla, CEO of NBOS Technologies., in its first angel round of funding.
Started earlier this year, BookMyBai was founded by Anupam Singal and Vikash Chowdhury, also co-founders of Nanojobs, with an aim to provide reliable house help to the customers. BookMyBai offers household help in four main categories viz maids, baby sitters, cooks and caretakers.
With the raised funds the startup plans to expand into more geographies in order to reach 10 cities across India by the end of next financial year. The company, currently, has operations in Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore and Hyderabad and expects to close this financial year with revenue of over $300K (INR 2 Cr).
Anupam Sinhal, co-founder and CEO said,
The funding has come at a very crucial time for the company. We spent three years in ideating and formulating a perfect model to crack this market. My prior experience of this domain through by first startup – NanoJobs.com came very handy. The pilot was successful and now the company will go all-out to scale the product rapidly. I believe this service was the need of the hour considering that this industry has been highly unorganised till date. BookMyBai aims to organise this industry and offer a seamless experience to the employers who are looking to hire a domestic help. I would like to congratulate every team member of BookMyBai.com who have spent hours into planning and executive of the idea.
Market Size
Today, with multiple hyperlocal delivery service startups like Taskbob, Urbanclap, Housejoy or Zimmber, getting a plumber, an electrician or house a help has become quite easy. However, for maids the market is cluttered with agencies who provide nannies or cooks without taking responsibility of any mishap later. This may include absconding of the maids, theft and ill behaviour.
The potential market for this segment is huge, as every household requires domestic help. The startup claims to have over 10000 maids, baby sitters, nanny, cooks, patient care staff in Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Surat. It follows unique hybrid model of proprietorship database with nearly 12,000 domestic helps along with aggregation of verified and trust maid bureaus.
How Does It Work
It works through a combination of proprietary database along with aggregation of trusted and verified maid bureaus. The database is generated through company’s sources after which a two-minute video is shot with the maid that has basic 10 to 20 questions that any employer would ask a maid in a face-to-face interview.
- It allows the users to search through the database on basis of household chores they want the maid to do. It shows a list of all available maids in the area.
- Users can then select the maid and watch recorded interviews free of cost and shortlist them.
- After which maid’s availability is checked, and if available, the users just need to pay the joining charges and the maid will join the next day.
Along with this, BookMyBai also lays a lot of emphasis on security of both the employer and the domestic help. Therefore, it does on-demand background verification of the domestic help.
Why BookMyBai is different from the other prevalent platform?
The startup has raised the funds at a time when the central government is planning to move a Cabinet note on a national policy for domestic helpers and workers.
BookMyBai.com is also talking to a couple of VC firms for the next round of Series A funding, and would make an announcement in a couple of months.
