Big Fish Ventures Raises $11 Mn From Angel Investors

Big Fish Ventures that runs premium dining lounges like the Junkyard Cafe, the Vault Cafe, among others has raised $11.1 Mn (INR 75 Cr) in the second round of funding from angel investors including HNIs and founder Umang Tewari.

The Delhi-based startup Big Fish was founded in 2015 by hospitality sector veteran Umang Tewari. Big Fish owns and operates food and beverage outlets in casual dining, cafes and lounges under brand names like Vault Cafe, The Junkyard Cafe, Public Connection, GaramDharam, Raas and Bandstand in the NCR.

In 2016, the startup plans to expand its presence in Mumbai by opening outposts, and its first overseas outlet in Dubai. Besides, it will also explore opportunities in other cities like Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.

Founder of Big Fish, Umang Tewari said “The funds will be invested in expanding our existing brands, developing new concept-based brands and beefing up our technology in terms of presence on the mobile and online space.”

The startup is also working on developing new brands including courtyard concept Garden and a cafe called ‘OMG – Oh My God!’.

Last month, the startup launched a mobile app for table reservations at its restaurants and said that they will bring over 2 lakh customers on its mobile app by the year end is hopeful to do over 5,000 table reservations per day by June 2016. In 2015, the startup also roped in Nishant Singhal, co-founder of startup venture fund YouWeCan Ventures, along with cricketer Yuvraj Singh, as its chief mentor.
