Amazon seems to have decided to be in headlines all the time this year. It has now surpassed Flipkart in overall website traffic, including both PCs and mobile, according to data gathered by Kotak Institutional Equities from web traffic analytics company SimilarWeb.

For the period from November 2015 to May 2016  Amazon generated between 33% and 62% more monthly traffic than Flipkart. Also, the number of average monthly user visit reaches 180 Mn for Amazon, a 33.33% hike from Flipkart’s 120 Mn visits.

Also, Flipkart has suffered high in terms of its mobile app rankings. From top 10 in February, it now stays at number 16, two places behind Amazon. As per data from mobile-app analytics company App Annie, Amazon took the lead in June and got successful in getting 14th position in the play store.

This implies that Flipkart is losing its mobile dominance a bit owing to a reduction in its app downloads and other attributes such as, frequency of interaction with the app, number and quality of ratings, number of backlinks, and number of uninstalls.

However, as said by Flipkart in February, its mobile app downloads reached 50 Mn, whereas for amazon, it still lies within the range of 10 – 50 Mn.

Amazon had taken a lead ahead Snapdeal in March by becoming second-largest online marketplace by shipments.

A fall in web visits can be attributed to Flipkart’s earlier attempts to launch a mobile only version. But with Amazon catching up in mobile space too, it’s time for Flipkart to be in action.
