The ORIGIN STORY
Growing up in Muzaffarpur, Zunpulse founder Pranesh Chaudhary said he experienced long power cuts almost on a daily basis and also other challenges such as the lack of potable water. Having 24x7 electricity can also be a costly affair for many households in villages, which often suffer due to grid overloads. This intrinsic problem in the Indian market inspired the company to launch Internet of Things (IoT) devices for smart electricity management, lighting solutions, security, purification and monitoring consumption of power and water.
The GROWTH
The company claims that over 100K homes in India are using one or more of its products. In FY21, the revenue touched the INR 42 Cr mark, and in the ongoing fiscal year, it claims to have grown at 10% month-on-month for smart electrical products. Chaudhary said the company will finish FY22 at an ARR of INR 100 Cr, with a target of INR 400 Cr set for the next two years.
The DIFFERENTIATOR
Zunpulse claims it offers homeowners multiple layers of security, control and automation for all home management needs, whether in urban or rural areas. This includes a lineup of plug-and-play devices that are compatible with virtual assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. They can also be controlled with the Zunpulse app. Recognising that modern Indian homes have varied needs for home management, it has expanded rapidly into some of the hottest IoT smart home segments.
The JOURNEY
Zunpulse products are classified in four categories: security, lighting, energy efficiency, and purification. The company started off in the solar power industry (under the name Zunroof), but soon pivoted to smart home needs as internet and technology penetration improved. The product lineup includes products as diverse as smart locks, smart doorbells, and security cameras to IoT-powered lights and bulbs, fans, plug, remotes, energy monitors, room heaters and more. It has also ventured into water purification with smart water purifiers, and air purifiers.
What’s NEXT
This year, Zunpulse is aiming to expand its market share and enter 500K Indian homes. To get there, it is working on an unified platform for all smart home devices, where its smart products “can talk to each other”, the founder said. It will also launch brandowned experience stores to back its D2C sales. Chaudhary is confident that Zunpulse can reach 5 Mn homes across India by 2025, given the pace of adoption of smart home products.
