Why Entrepreneurs Love Mondays!

I hate weekends. I really do!

Now this is a pretty dramatic turnaround from my corporate days where I would start smiling on Thursdays, be grinning like a loon on Fridays and doing mental cartwheels on Saturdays… only to come crashing down to the depths of depression by Sunday night… anticipating the upcoming Monday morning back at work.

Now that I’m a entrepreneur (read…broke dictator with delusions of grandeur) I love monday mornings. Let me tell you why.

For any startup, the one person who has to work the hardest is the founder (or founders as the case may be). And this work entails not just your regular hustling (for users, for funds, etc) but also ensuring that your team is firing on all cylinders all week long. And as any team lead will tell you…getting quality work from your team consistently is the single biggest challenge any team leader has. And by the end of the week, the team and you are exhausted. Tired. And need a break.

That’s fine. It’s normal.

But what isn’t normal is a Founder’s rate of recovery. So while the team eases into the weekend with a Saturday and truly hits weekend mode on Sunday morning, the poor founder is already stressing and bouncing up and down (mentally, hopefully) about all the work that could have been done on Saturday & Sunday but hasn’t (So what if it was the weekend??). And by Monday morning, the founder (read me) is fairly jittering with pent-up energy, ideas and a work list longer than both her arms.

And that is why I love Monday mornings… it’s like a horse let loose to run… a child let loose to play… an entrepreneur let loose to work. Because finally, we can get back to work and to making our startup dream a reality.

In conclusion, I must admit that that age definitely has something to do with it. As I get older, I get more and more aware of how precious time really is and how quickly it’s running out of my hands. There is so much to do, so much to learn and so much to prove… that I just don’t have time anymore to waste on a weekend 🙂

Happy Monday, people!
