Food delivery apps Zomato and Swiggy are reportedly down in many parts of the country.

Users are reporting issues regarding not being able to access the apps and not being able to place the order. On opening the app, the users were greeted by a blank white screen with the error message – “Something went wrong! Please try again.”

In many cases, app users have also claimed that money was deducted from the account without order confirmation.

Zomato confirmed the outage saying that they were facing a temporary glitch. The company’s Twitter handle, in a reply to the complaint, said that it was working on the matter and it would be resolved soon.

Interestingly, nearly an hour after the outage, many Zomato users reported that the app was restored, but the downturn continues in many parts of the country.

On the other hand, Swiggy has made no such comments. Responding to one such tweet about the outage, Swiggy’s Twitter handle said, “We see that the app is working now, please check.”

Both Swiggy and Zomato have not yet released any official statement on the matter.

According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, both Zomato and Swiggy were experiencing outages. The website claims that user reports indicate problems at both Zomato and Swiggy apps.

The reports began to pour in around 9 PM and have reportedly not been fixed. The complaints came from Metro cities, including Delhi and Mumbai as well as from Tier-2 cities like Gwalior.

Meanwhile, a meme fest has broken out on the internet with Twitterati making fun of the outage. Users pointed out that they have been left in the lurch on a Friday night waiting to order their food. Making fun at the expense of the two food delivery giants, the Twitter users used memes and videos to air their complaints and take potshots at the two major players.

The outage could spell doom for Zomato. The tech giant has been witnessing a bloodbath on Dalal Street for nearly a month now amid global market volatility.

In addition, Zomato had also reported narrowing of consolidated net loss to INR 67.2 Cr for the Q3 ended 31 December, 2021, on the back of better revenue growth. But today’s outage might cause severe heartburn for investors on Monday.

Earlier in December of 2020, Google services including Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive had stopped working for users across the globe, which was reportedly caused by its inhouse automated storage quota management system.
