Gurgaon-based restaurant listing site, Zomato.com has started with online food ordering service in Delhi, with Mumbai and Bangalore to follow. The company has also enabled Zomato Cashless.

According to the people who are familiar with the development, Zomato will take 7.5% – 15% commission from the restaurant for each order being placed. Interestingly, Zomato has made rating by customers mandatory and in case a user who hasn’t given rating post delivery he/she will be redirected to rate before the next order is been placed, this is similar to Ola and other cab services. Well, this has a reason behind, according to the source, in case user gives less rating, Zomato will charge 15% commission and for better rating it will charge 7.5% commission. On the other side, foodpanda takes 12% commission. In simple terms, for restaurants, either offer good service or pay more commission. :p

Also, Zomato has provided the restaurants with iPads with Zomato app which will act as an Zomato direct line which will confirm all the orders placed through Zomato.

With this, the company has also announced few more updates in the app, which includes the 10,000 cities across the US, Australia, UK, and Canada have been migrated from Urbanspoon to Zomato. The Zomato iOS app also support Apple Watch.

Zomato’s this move comes just in few days after foodpanda has launched food delivery service, before one could place order through foodpanda and respective restaurants use to place order but now, foodpanda will deliver food on restaurant’s behalf.

Of lately, a number of activities have been taking place in the food space, Ola too started with food delivery business a few weeks back.

Earlier this month,  Zomato.com, has raised about $50 Mn in a new round of funding.
