Just launched a month back, PhonePe’s ONDC app Pincode claims to have surpassed 50,000 installs in Bengaluru. Further, the platform is said to be processing more than 5000 orders a day with growing popularity in the city and showcasing strong customer preference.
According to Pincode, Bengaluru-based customers are accessing the app to purchase daily necessities including groceries and food. The startup attributed the success to its plans of promoting local businesses and connecting those with their customer base, while offering convenience of doorstep delivery, discounts, and easy refunds and returns.
The app was launched on the ONDC platform in April. The leadership team at Pincode now plans to attract small merchants to the ecosystem and aims to create sustainable employment opportunities going further.
Commenting on the 50,000+ installs, Lalit Singh, general manager, Pincode said, “The strong customer preference we are seeing for the Pincode app is a testament to the seamless and convenient shopping experience we offer.”
He also added that the ONDC platform has emerged as a game changer for the local enterprises of India, and as an app, Pincode will continue to be committed to enhance shopping experience for its users by consistently expanding its selection of stores and adding more categories in the app
Pincode has stated that it will be available across other Indian cities very soon.
PhonePe has been active about new launches and business updates these days. Following the footsteps of its major competitor Paytm, it recently launched a new feature UPI Lite to enable users to initiate low-value payments under INR 200 from their UPI Lite account without entering a pin.
Pincode is a buyers’ app by PhonePe and focuses on listing retailers and kiranas to the benefit of the local consumers, following a hyperlocal model. As for ONDC, aggregating the local sellers with their potential customers is just the beginning for ONDC and that explains why companies are increasingly leaning towards the platform.
ONDC is a network enabler platform backed by the government which has been received well by the buyer-seller community. It has recently announced a 500X increase in its daily transactions.
Further, ONDC in January recorded 800 retail merchants which rose to 35,000 now, a 4,275% increase within five months. In addition, the platform has also expanded across 230 cities from 85 in the beginning of this year.
The government has been urging companies to join ONDC for quite sometime now. It recently urged such companies to join the network with their primary platforms and not with any subsidiary app .
Further, ONDC has also reported a substantial increase in its daily rides between two cities where it recently introduced mobility services. The two cities – Kochi and Bengaluru – now report 35,000 rides per day.
Following fintech major PhonePe, Axis Bank is also reportedly going to launch its ecommerce platform on ONDC. According to reports, the app will initially sell groceries and gradually move on to other segments.
