Gurugram-based product review startup Mishry has raised an undisclosed amount of Pre-Seed funding from foodtech entrepreneur Vir Sanghvi and fintech players, Rajiv Garodia and Kiran Shetty.

Talking to Inc42, Tanu Ganguly, founder, Mishry, said that the funds will be used towards adopting content, including expanding into video reviews, more products and therefore, hire more people in its team of 10. Ganguly said the company is also looking to go vernacular by adding more languages to reach Tier 2 and 3 markets.

Founded in 2019 by Ganguly, Mishry reviews products in the cooking and dining space. It is a verdict-driven platform that recommends best buying options for a range of categories like groceries, snacks, dairy products and kitchen appliances like blenders, microwaves, refrigerators, air fryers, etc.

Ganguly, with nearly two decades of experience in the food industry, said that the reviews for food products are important as most of us invest heavily in our groceries. She says, the kind of reviews Mishry does have been mostly done for auto and technology products.

Expanding reviews beyond restaurants, Mishry claims to have done over 200 review pieces. Ganguly said over 2 Lakh users have been visiting Mishry via social media, especially Twitter and Facebook.

The company emphasises that it doesn’t accept free products for reviews, but rather buys them and then does a fair review. Ganguly says that the company has been receiving various review requests from brands as well as users.

On the question of plans of integrating with larger platforms, Ganguly said Mishry is running pilots with Amazon and BigBasket, but refused to share further details of the said pilot.

“Reviews are getting more and more acceptance across the world – more so pre-saIe reviews, which by default are research and expert-driven. While consumers in the tech and auto sectors have enjoyed expert-driven reviews all along, nothing like this existed in the Food space,” reportedly said Vir Sanghvi, founder, EazyDiner.

As the content becomes a major key for the growth of various companies, a food review beyond the products of restaurants is an interesting approach to the food market. For the longest time, Indians have been watching cooking shows and sharing word of mouth for brands of products that works for them, a technology upgrade to the whole process, looks an interesting idea to lead with.
