College search engine Collegedunia has been quickly making inroads into the edtech sector with its new features. Its exam section has been updated recently with extensively detailed information. The Delhi-based startup is determined to help college applicants take the right decisions. It has recently launched its Rank Predictor feature for AIPMT. Soon, it will be rolled out for other prominent exams too. Its regular features include providing end to end information on college admissions – course, processes, fees, deadline, ratings, reviews, college, etc.

Collegedunia was founded in 2014 by Sahil Chalana, a BITS Pilani graduate. Recently, it raised $444K (INR 3 Cr) in Pre-Series A round of funding from its existing investor Umang Kumar, co-founder and CEO of Gaadi.com. Prior to this, it had raised $147K (INR 1 Cr) in angel funding from Umang in November 2014.

New Features Added

The rank predictor feature will not only serve as a tool to find out one’s rank, but it will also act as counsellor for students, giving important details like which colleges to refer under a rank state-wise, their fee structure, courses offered, etc.

It will go hand in hand with the counselling facility where students can seek real time advice from Collegedunia’s in-house counselling team of 25 members, who can be reached out by mail or call. Collegedunia has also started publishing the cut-offs and expected cut-offs for all the exams. Another new feature is the availability of practice papers. Currently, it has practice papers for almost 92% of the exams. It also provides content analysis for most question papers. It has brought extensive changes in its exam sections. For instance, JEE Mains and GATE pages have detailed layouts of the exams to guide a student thoroughly.

As of now Collegedunia registers 1 lakh unique visitors daily and it aims to cross the 2.5 lakh mark by the end of this year. Currently, it comes at 643 on Alexa ranking, behind its two biggest competitors – Shiksha and Careers360. Some of the other major players in this space include HT Campus, Pagalguy.com and Minglebox.

Future Plans

According to Sahil, the company’s primary focus is to enhance user experience, and to make it better and easily accessible. Moving in this direction, Collegedunia is concentrating on developing and increasing the counselling team to focus on valuable delivery to all its users. The startup will soon add a government jobs exams section on its platform to address the rising popularity of government jobs.

As part of its expansion plans, the startup plans to tie up with schools and universities and provide counselling to students in the formative stage to help them make the right career choices in terms of educational institutes and courses to pursue.

Talking about that Sahil says, “Over the last few year, we have tried to catch hold of the Indian education system, which being dynamic is pretty vast. After having proven ourselves in the field while raking in almost as much users as our contemporaries, we now have our focus towards expansion and presentation of our product in a more natural and flamboyant way rather than being over the top.”
