Uber To Invest $50 Mn For Its New Facility In Hyderabad; Said To Be Biggest Facility Outside The US

San Francisco-based taxi service provider, Uber announced its expansion to 7 new cities in India earlier last week. This time the company has announced its plans to invest $50 Mn to build a state-of-the-art office in Hyderabad city housing about 500 employees in the next five years.

In order to ramp up its India operation Uber has signed a MoU with Telangana government. Uber says that this agreement is aligned as a visionary step and a significant milestone in how governments and Uber are working together around the world to develop smart cities.

Uber plans to collaborate with the Telangana Academy for Skills and Knowledge (TASK) to identify and train over 2,000 candidates by the end of 2016, who will then drive on the Uber platform. The duo plans to create socio-economic opportunities for women and poor sections of the society. Building up the biggest office outside US, Uber will create thousands of jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Hyderabad has been advocating an exponential growth in number of startups. With a home to around 560 startups the city is has been a growth driver for many big companies. Recently, Google and Amazon had announced its plans to set up their largest non-US campuses in the city.

According to Uber, the lifestyle, the supportive and progressive government, excellent real estate and deep talent pool were the key factors that has made Hyderabad the preferred choice. The office is supposed to be the biggest international office housing hundreds of its employees.
