Three Years Late, But Finally Skill Development Ministry Standardises Logo For Skill India Programme

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has finally rolled out the guidelines to standardise usage of the different media-related entities for PM Narendra Modi’s Skill India Programme. The development comes after three years of the launch of the programme.

In a guideline report, the Ministry said, “The usage of Skill India Programme logo will assist in creating a common recall and identity for all initiatives being undertaken by the government of India and other entities. The guidelines aim to amplify brand recognition.”

The Ministry has identified four common elements which reflect the brand – PM Modi’s photo, the government of India emblem, ministry logo and scheme logo, Skill India Programme logo and mention of “Under the Skill India Mission” in body copy.

It is to be noted that under the new guidelines, permission from the Skill ministry would be required for using the logo and tagline for events, publications, website, portals and electronic media, but only official pictures of the PM will have to be used across creatives with all approvals on each creative (print/social/hoarding/any other branding) to be accorded from the Prime Minister’s Office directly.

The Skill India Programme launched in 2015 aimed to train more than 400 Mn people in different skills by 2022. However, around 40 Mn have been trained by different stakeholders since then, 25 Mn people of them by the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship.

India’s nearly 12 Mn youth enters the country’s workforce every year, but most of them remain unemployable because of poor skill sets, which is why it’s a key thrust area for the government.

With the aims to make India the skill capital of the world, the ministry is now converging all skill related programmes of more than a dozen central ministries, besides bringing all states and companies on board to collate data on skills training imparted since the launch of the Skill India programme.

Recently, reports surfaced that the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India has signed an MoU with the Singapore e-Government Leadership Centre (eGL) to skill India’s workforce.

The MoU states that both the organisations will work together to develop and implement skill development programmes across emerging technology areas like Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

As the Ministry takes first steps to ensure compliance of standards in the programme, the Skill India programme is expected to make more skilled employable resources in the country.
