According to a survey by market research firm Axis My India, 48% of Indian consumers shop more during the festive season as compared to the rest of the year. 

This is the time when D2C retail can truly blossom unabated as high intent shoppers plan on taking the online route to fulfil their wishlists. A survey by digital marketing firm The Trade Desk revealed that 66% of shoppers intend to shop from D2C websites for this festive season. 

The investor sentiment towards the sector also seems promising, despite the fall in overall ecommerce funding in 2022. According to Inc42 data, the D2C sector bagged around 41% of the total funding raised by ecommerce startups in 2022. It also recorded a 195% growth in funding in Q2, 2022 at $597 Mn, as compared to the second quarter of last year. 

Despite the positive projections, there are plenty of challenges faced by D2C brands. According to Inc42’s State Of Indian Ecommerce report, at 34%, lack of brand awareness remains the most significant challenge for India’s D2C. This is followed by commission to third-party digital marketplaces (18%), growing competition (16%) and customer retention (16%).
