Tata Power Partners Zoomcar To Boost India’s EV Ecosystem

SUMMARY

TPEVCSL’s collaboration with Zoomcar is aimed at encouraging more people to list their EVs on Zoomcar's platform and potential customers to opt for them

Tata Power’s EV charging infrastructure includes over 50K home chargers, over 4,370 public and semi-public charging points, and 250 bus charging points across 350 cities, including multiple highways

Recently, Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Limited, too, joined hands with electric cab aggregator Evera to set up an EV charging super hub in New Delhi, which will have 200 charging points

Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL) and self-drive car rental platform Zoomcar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote Tata Power’s EZ charge points on the Zoomcar platform to boost the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.

Along with Zoomcar’s existing customers, the collaboration will also focus on supporting existing and aspiring EV owners nationwide.

Insights on Tata Power’s extensive network of EZ charge points across the country are expected to provide users with easy access to EV charging and address the challenges associated with using the charging infrastructure. This step will encourage more people to list their EVs on Zoomcar’s platform and potential customers to opt for them, said TPEVCSL in an exchange filing.

Tata Power’s EV charging infrastructure includes over 50K home chargers, over 4,370 public and semi-public charging points, and 250 bus charging points across 350 cities, including multiple highways.

Its customised solutions include software subscription services, a mobile app, chargers, power supply, and back-end infrastructure. Tata Power also has a mobile app that facilitates locating the EV charging stations in its network.

The company aims to establish 25K charging points in the next five years.

TPEVCSL and Zoomcar signed the MoU in Mumbai in the presence of Ashish Khanna, the CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy; Virendra Goyal, the head of business development, EV charging, at Tata Power, and others.

“This collaboration with Zoomcar is another milestone in our journey to speed up the green mobility transition in the country. As India’s leading EV charging infrastructure provider, we are constantly collaborating with industry partners such as Zoomcar to develop a technologically advanced and robust EV ecosystem in the country,” said Praveer Sinha, the CEO and MD of Tata Power.

In July this year, TPEVCSL launched an RFID card that allows EV users to initiate charging by tapping it on the EZ charger at any location in the country.

“Our car-sharing platform is perfectly suited for electric vehicles and we expect to grow 50% of our platform by 2025. This mutual partnership is poised to create a comprehensive ecosystem that fulfils the evolving needs of EV enthusiasts,” said Greg Moran, the CEO and cofounder of Zoomcar.

To boost India’s EV ecosystem, several smaller and bigger private players are joining hands.

Recently, Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Limited also announced a partnership with electric cab aggregator Evera to set up an EV charging super hub in New Delhi, which will have 200 charging points.

Zoomcar currenlty has over 20K cars on its technology-driven platform across India, Indonesia, and Egypt. The company primarily generates revenue from short-term self-drive rentals and vehicle subscriptions.
