At a time when edtech is staggering under macroeconomic pressures, Tata Digital’s super app TataNeu has launched NeuSkills, a reskilling vertical.
Tata NeuSkills will start offering two bootcamp-based courses – data analytics and frontend development later this month – according to the vertical’s website. The new platform is organising two hackathons for both long-term programmes on April 28.
These courses are said to be six months long and will require a person to complete a capstone project before being certified. Tata NeuSkills said on its website that a learner needs to dedicate at least 15 hours per week for long-term courses.
Reportedly, TataNeu is offering the courses for an ‘introductory price’ of INR 60,000, excluding tax. However, the website mentions a pricing of INR 1 Lakh + GST for the entire course.
Further, NeuSkills is also launching a short-term programme for Google’s app-building software Flutter.
NeuSkills’ website also mentioned that candidates that complete the courses with at least 80% attendance and at least 80% marks scored on MCQs and HOCs will get a chance to be placed at one of Tata Group’s companies or partner companies.
These include the likes of BigBasket, 1mg, Cult.fit, TCS, Croma, Air Asia, Westside, Tata Cliq and others. The platform also claims that based on the learner’s performance, they can bag a 40% hike or more after being placed.
During the course, a person will also have the option to intern at these companies for up to three months.
The new platform from Tata Digital is the second edtech play across the larger Tata Group, the digital classroom solution Tata ClassEdge.
Interestingly, upskilling has emerged as a major subsector within edtech recently, with more and more funding being pumped into startups operating there. Per Inc42 data, upskilling startups raised $164.61 Mn during 2022, up about 63% from $61.30 Mn raised in 2021.
Tata NeuSkills is entering a segment which is dominated by a handful of incumbents, including the likes of upGrad, Great Learning and Scalar in India, among others, especially in the data analytics and frontend development categories.
Apart from these startups, many international universities and companies including Coursera also offer similar courses at competitive prices.
