On lockdown day 51, the government’s much-talked-about Aarogya Setu app was launched for JioPhones. MeitY said that it has rolled out a version of its Bluetooth contact tracing app the feature phone lineup, which runs KaiOS. Other phones with this operating system may also be able to use the app.
The launch of Aarogya Setu on JioPhones addresses the complaint that the app was only meant for smartphone users and many of those providing essential services may not necessarily have a smartphone. But beyond this, Aarogya Setu also responded to reports of a researcher hacking into the system and marking himself safe. The official Twitter account responded to the allegations by saying that personal details of other users cannot be accessed.
Further, another privacy-related alert came from ethical hacker, Robert Baptiste, who goes by the alias Elliot Alderson on Twitter. Alderson tweeted that Surat Municipal Corporation has published “the personal data of Covid19 patients on a governmental website and so violate medical confidentiality seems to be the new normal in India.”
MakeMyTrip Enters Food Delivery & More
In other news, MakeMyTrip has rolled out an online gourmet delivery service in partnership with luxury and premium hotel chains and independent properties across cities in India. In partnership with fine-dining restaurants across the country, the company is providing delivery of select delicacies from K3 and Delhi Baking Company at JW Marriott (Delhi); Roasted by Roseate and The Kheer at Roseate House (Delhi); Limelight and Ging & Pinxx at Royal Orchid (Bengaluru); 24/7 Restaurant at The Lalit (Mumbai), The Right Place and Chin Chin at The Residency (Chennai) etc. – along with exclusive delivery options from The Park, Radisson and a few others in the Delhi-NCR region.
To support startups, TiE Delhi-NCR in association with Indifi aims to offer growth capital. Indifi Technologies through this partnership will support business continuity among startups and will offer growth capital worth INR 10 Lakh-INR 2 Cr. TiE Delhi-NCR will also offer mentorship and strategic guidance.
GOQii To Conduct Field Study
Healthtech startup GOQii has launched Vital 3.0, a wrist band with sensors to detect body temperature. Goqii has partnered with German company Thryve to conduct a clinical study in India to detect Covid-19 infections earlier than testing. GOQii Vital 3 will also be given to Mumbai Police to ensure early detection of Covid-19 symptoms.
Also, Uber also launched a comprehensive set of measures, ramped up the distribution of millions of PPE kits to drivers and introduced safety awareness education video courses for them. Uber’s new in-app safety feature will notify drivers to replenish their PPE supplies after they have completed a predetermined number of trips.
The notification will provide a list of convenient pickup points and generate a QR code once they select the preferred location. An Uber volunteer will scan the QR code at the designated pick up location and hand over PPE supplies to drivers.
