TEDx BITS Hyderabad – At The Heart Of Innovation

TEDx is quite arguably one of the best opportunities around the world to meet people who are pioneers in various fields and gives you an experience like none other. Whether watching various eminent personalities speak in person or understanding some of the groundbreaking ideas or achievements, this really is the best platform that you can find. TEDx was created with the same spirit as TED i.e. “ideas worth spreading” and are independently organized events that are organized and managed wholly by the host organization of Institute. Here, at BITS Pilani-Hyderabad Campus, we are all pleased to have the first ever TEDx event of the Institute!

BITS Pilani-Hyderabad Campus was established in 2008 and is a flourishing campus in one of the technological hubs of the Indian subcontinent. Given its proximity to various industrial hotspots of the country, it is only natural that the students and professors are enthusiastic about innovation and not just in the technical arena. The holistic approach that everyone at BITS Pilani-Hyderabad Campus embodies is the motivation for organizing an event of this magnitude. The invited speakers at the Institute portray the true spirit of human determination, innovation and originality and perseverance and listening to them speak is an opportunity nobody should miss!

At BITS-Pilani Hyderabad Campus, we believe achievement can come in any type and any experience that you have can be worth sharing, if it is in the right spirit. That is why the speakers at TEDx here come from a wide variety of backgrounds. From professionals such as lawyers and doctors to medical researchers and mountaineers, we have them all. In addition, if you would like to see the brilliance in solving a Rubik’s Cube, we have a speaker to show you that as well!

Among the speakers, we have Dr. Suman Kapur, a researcher in Biological Sciences and Dean at BITS Pilani who is best known for her recent breakthrough in cost effective diabetic detection methods. We also have, Satyabrata Dam, a mountaineer who has led expeditions to the North Pole, South Pole and to Mt. Everest. He has also scaled the highest peaks in all seven continents! On the arts and music front, say hello to Shekhinah Shawn, an opera singer who is capable of singing in various languages including German and Italian. For those of you looking for a bit of genius, John Louis, a well known mathematics genius and Orlando Bernett, a Rubik’s Cube champion are ready to enthrall you!

The event is scheduled for the 25th of November, 2012 and we can’t describe how excited everyone is. The beauty of sharing knowledge and in the process, inspiring others is something that few events have and TEDx does stand out in that respect! Given its venue this time, in a very academic environment, everyone in the audience will leave a more inspired individual.
