The war between homegrown ecommerce biggies Flipkart and Snapdeal is not something people aren’t aware of. Be it in terms of getting funding or the race of acquiring more and more startups, both the companies have always been in a cut-throat competition. Last year, Kunal Bahl in an interview pointed out Flipkart as overvalued and caught a lot of attention be it negative or the positive. This time, Sachin Bansal, founder of Flipkart got an opportunity to drag down the Snapdeal founders.

Rohit Bansal, co-founder of Snapdeal in an interview said that India doesn’t have adequate quality programmers, looking at the remarks made by the Snapdeal’s cofounder, this time Sachin Bansal first time publicly on Twitter came forward and took a dig at its closest competitor and said, “Don’t blame India for your failure to hire great engineers. They join for culture and challenge.”

Now the battle has become fierce following the remark made by Flipkart’s founder. Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal recently announced plans of the company in which they said that they also plan to open up an office in Silicon Valley to expand their engineering talent. “If you think about the landscape in India, not too many product companies got built here,” Rohit Bansal said in an interview with WSJ. The company is also considering to start a software development centre in the US and even plans to buy firms to tap the engineering talents they need. Rohit further added, “Many of these people moved to the US because opportunities for doing (such) high-quality work were not available in India,” Rohit Bansal said. “Now those opportunities are not only available in India, but (India) is a more exciting place,” he added. Sachin Bansal further added:

Five year old, Delhi-based Snapdeal has recently, entered the best employers’ club, the latest survey done by the Great Place To Work Institute India, in partnership with Retailers Association of India has put Snapdeal 10 employers among retailers. While, the rest of the  nine companies in this list are traditional brick and mortar retailers.

Here Snapdeal founders need to take a note that India not only has some awesome engineers but has established companies as well which are making use of the country’s talent to their best. For instance, Housing.com, Commonfloor have solved common man’s problem of finding a home using their cool technology. Not only this sector, commute has been made a breeze with advent of players. Homegrown taxi aggregator is giving a tough time to its rival Uber. All these case advocate that India does have good engineers, all one needs to do is look at the right places. And finally Snapdeal too is a Homegrown company!!
