Following A Cease & Desist Notice, Snapdeal Has Removed Nalli Sarees From Its Portal

After delivering soap bars and wood pieces, ecommerce giant Snapdeal is again making news for allegedly using Nalli’s registered trademark and claiming to have original Nalli sarees on their portal.&nbps;

Nalli said in a press release, “It is a deliberate attempt by Snapdeal to deceive the public to unjustly enrich itself to make the public assume that the original “NALLI” silk sarees are available on their website.”

Nalli Sarees has alleged Snapdeal for using its registered trademark Nalli as a search word and copying images from its website for back-grounding an offer on silk sarees.  Nalli also alleged that the background picture used on Snapdeal’s offer page was copied from their homepage. 
 Following a cease and desist order from a 85 year old Chennai’s clothing brand, Nalli Chinnasami Chetty, ecommerce giant Snapdeal has removed Nalli sarees from its portal. 
 
Company said in a press statement, “Snapdeal.com is an online marketplace which connects buyers and sellers to provide the widest assortment of products. We have received the notice from the company and will take appropriate actions as per law.” 
In a similar case, Shree Meena Creations, pan-India saree distributor filed a lawsuit against Flipkart, Amazon and eBay, for allegedly selling replications of its copyrighted sarees. Moreover, there has been many other cases of marketplace violation in startup ecosystem, latest being of Flipkart delivering bricks and empty boxes for an order of laptops.
The development of snapped listing such products was first reported by ET and removal of the products was first brought in light by medianama.
