Edtech platform Scaler has announced the acquisition of Delhi-based Pepcoding for an undisclosed amount with an aim to strengthen its business ecosystem.

In the last two years, it is the fourth acquisition by Scaler following the acquisitions of AppliedRoots, Coding Minutes, and Coding Elements.

According to Scaler, the deal is going to accelerate growth and support its several business units including strategy, product design, B2B enterprise, operations, etc.

As a part of the acquisition, Pepcoding’s cofounder Sumeet Malik has joined Scaler as an instructor and content creator to help enhance the learner experience, especially in the Low-Level Design (LLD) curriculum. In addition, the other employees of the acquired startup have joined Scaler to work across various verticals.

Pepcoding will also work on the development of Scaler’s newly launched four-year residential undergraduate program titled School of Technology, in Bengaluru. As Scaler starts sessions for the first batch of students this academic year, Pepcoding’s team will play an essential role in the building and execution of the program.

Talking about absorbing Pepcoding’s employees, Abhimanyu Saxena, cofounder of Scaler & InterviewBit said, “Their experience with undergraduate students will come in handy to our recently launched residential undergraduate program, the Scaler School of Technology. Pepcoding’s diverse talent pool and Sumeet’s extensive industry expertise will help accelerate the pace we are working towards achieving our vision and mission.”

Pepcoding was established in 2017 by Sumeet Malik. It offers courses in data structure & algorithms (DSA), web development, data science, CORE, CBSE, GATE & business analytics. It claims to have catered more than 5000 learners since its launch, empowering them to make successful career transitions.

Its courses are available both online and offline for the undergraduates to enable them to improve their coding skills, learn with like-minded people and secure employment opportunities across leading companies.

Scaler acquired Applied Roots for $50 Mn, in March last year. Like Pepcoding, Applied Roots employees also joined Scaler to help build its content vertical – Scaler Topics .

It acquired Coding Elements in 2021, in an all-cash deal worth $1 Mn. About the acquisition, Scaler stated that it would help accelerate business growth.

Prior to this, Scaler also raised an investment amounting $55 Mn in a Series B funding round.

Founded in 2014 by Anshuman Singh and Abhimanyu Saxena, Scaler aims to offer high-quality technical education by tech leaders and subject matter experts from various tech giants, including Google, Facebook, Intuit, Microsoft, Amazon, Hotstar, and Snapdeal.

The edtech industry in India has been trying to overcome the chills of the funding winter and the setback of the reopening of the institutions.

Yesterday (May 30), Unacademy unveiled UnacademyX, a new platform for UPSC aspirants.

This came after the edtech startup Physics Wallah (PW) announced plans to invest INR 100 Cr to further scale up its UPSC vertical.
