Reliance Industries, during its annual general meeting (AGM), has introduced a mixed reality gadget, Jio Glass, for a “truly immersive experience”.

The product, which weighs only 75 grams, can be used to conduct 3D virtual meetings, create holographic content and can turn a normal video conference more interactive. Users can also share presentations on a virtual screen with the Jio Glass, and use the technology to have a seamless virtual experience.

Commenting on the product, Reliance Industries’ president, Kiran Thomas, said, “Jio Glass is at the cutting edge of technology that provides best-in-class Mixed Reality services to give users a truly meaningful immersive experience… With Jio Glass, the traditional way of learning Geography will now be history.”

Besides this, Reliance chairperson and managing director Mukesh Ambani spoke about his vision to create a ‘2G Mukt Bharat’ by leveraging its strategic partnership with global tech giant Google. The duo will be developing an Android-based smartphone operating system that could power a value-engineered, entry-level 4G/5G smartphone.

Commenting on the same, Google’s  CEO, Sunder Pichai said, “I am excited that our joint collaboration will focus on increasing access for hundreds of millions of people, who don’t currently own a smartphone while improving mobile experience for all.”

Moreover, Reliance Industries has also confirmed that it has completed 5G from scratch and will start 5G trials once the spectrum is available for auction. Last month, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio also sought the telecom department’s permission to do lab testing of its in-house developed 5G products. Once the permission is granted, the telco would have to undertake the whole testing process on its own, including setting up the test network at its premises since no third-party is involved.

During the AGM, Reliance Jio has also enhanced the Jio TV+ service with a new interface that looks very similar to that of Apple TV+. This product will bundle all the content from various over-the-top (OTT) platforms and TV channels under one service to allow a more streamlined discovery experience for its customers.

Besides this, Ambani has also noted that there is no better partner for Indian startups than Reliance Jio. “Jio is ready to partner with startups to help them reach their full potential. Jio will play a leading role in India’s growth into a digital society,” he added. Ambani also emphasised that Jio, along with its 20 startup partners, has built significant world-class capabilities in several cutting-edge technologies.
