The yet-to-launch World of Web Series (WOWS) is all set to help recommend viewers the best shows across OTT platforms.
AI-backed WOWS, operated by Roaring Wolf Media, has raised an investment from advertising firm RazorPod and various other angel investors. However, the funding has not yet been filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
WOWS, founded by Chirag Alawadhi, Mukul Choudhary and Mayur Sethi, works as a video streaming guide that recommends shows across the video-streaming platforms according to the users’ preference.
How WOWS Uses AI For Recommendations?
The idea behind the platform is to redirect users from the mainstream shows that social feeds recommend to the not so popular shows that a user might like. It also intends to use the fresh capital to increase catalyst network across the world and improve the viewing experience.
Commenting on the investment received, Mayur Sethi, cofounder and COO of Roaring Wolf Media said, “With the availability of innumerable OTT platforms and AI suggestions, WOWS will become their one-stop-platform for all OTT related information and entertainment.”
WOWS Cofounder Mukul Choudhary added that there is a clear need to bring distinction of genre of content thanks to the plethora of languages in India. User preferences vary wildly across states. “Our target would be to help them watch the same by providing more information about the series and let them make an informed decision,” Choudhary said.
Limited time and the influx of video streaming platforms both globally and nationally has left users confused about what to watch. There are more than 40 OTT players in India with 10K web series available online. The list continues to expand.
In the Indian market, Amazon Prime has announced 18 original shows for India. Netflix, on the other hand, has announced 22 original movies and 11 series from India cutting across genres and languages. Hotstar is investing $16.9 Mn (INR 120 Cr) in original content. The list expands exponentially globally.
These platforms have also changed consumption habits dramatically giving endless opportunities to filmmakers and writers to explore the market further, thus, pushing more number of good shows online.
