Inc42 Daily Brief
Stay Ahead With Daily News & Analysis on India’s Tech & Startup Economy
It was just two years ago when the founder of a small yet funded real estate company with no marketing or say a low marketing budget used to scout for people on social networks to get them to use his newly launched platform. This, believe it or not, was the infamous Rahul Yadav of Housing.
Today, however, is a different story altogether. With backers like Softbank, this real estate company has become the most talked about startup in India and is now valued over $250 million. With all his antics, today Rahul Yadav has officially become the new PR king of the Indian startup ecosystem and has dethroned Kunal Bahl of Snapdeal, who was known for his precisely timed PR’s, statements and planted rumours.
The love-hate affair between Rahul Yadav & the media started out a few months ago thanks to the infamous public spat with Sequoia’s MD and then the ongoing incidents with Times Group. Rahul manages to stay in the limelight thanks to his public social media status’s and comments targeting other senior industry folks like Deepinder Goyal, Bhavish of Ola and even Ravi Gururaj.
He now knows “how to remain in the headlines and play with media.”
Yesterday ET carried out a story about Quikr acquiring Housing.com. Rahul tried trolling the media by replying to all media houses with opposing responses and in an email sent out to his team internally he said, “You’ll have a cocktail of news in the morning.”
Here is the snapshot of the mail.
He goes berserk, makes fun, intentionally picks on others and tries to do everything that makes him the most talked about founder of the Indian startup ecosystem.
It seems that he has taken the notion of “Any publicity is good publicity” too seriously!
