In India, students who are not finding the right opportunity to work and learn are now opting for jobs that give them quick money. One such industry in which these students are finding work to fund their studies is food delivery, a recent Swiggy survey highlighted.
According to the survey, which was published on Thursday (January 8), showed that around 37% of their part-time delivery partners, who work for four to eight hours, are students.
Moreover, the survey also highlighted that around 4% of these delivery partners, besides working for Swiggy, are nurturing their talents as singers, actors, dancers or fitness trainers.
Dreaming Big
Besides students and trainee artists, the survey also said that entrepreneurs, who are short of cash, are also working as part-time delivery partners for the company. The company said that around 10% of the part-time delivery partners are entrepreneurs, who are running their own businesses separately.
Moreover, around 28% of part-time delivery partners who are saving the money earned while working at Swiggy for achieving their life goals such as buying a house or owning a car of their own. Additionally, the company said that around 20% of such delivery partners are also working as part-time employees at other places as well.
Inspired by their superiors, around 33% of these delivery boys aspire to step-in the shoes of fleet managers with the company, the report added. “20% aim to land a full-time regular job eventually,” Swiggy added.
The Responsible Riders
To meet their own and their family’s financial goals, around 29% of these riders complete their day-shifts with some other company and then work for the food aggregator during the night hours. The survey also found that around 29% of the part-time drivers are primary earning members of their household.
Around 8% of these drivers said that they are working part-time with Swiggy to fund their siblings’ weddings.
The survey was participated by 16K part-time drivers of Swiggy from metros, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Besides metros, delivery partners from Lucknow, Kochi, Kota, Vadodara, Surat, Varanasi, among others participated in the survey.
