Paytm Inbox allows users to send messages to contacts in the app
The company is upgrading its code base, CEO Vijay Sharma tweeted
Paytm told Inc42 that response to inbox feature has ‘been very positive’
Earlier today, reports surfaced that Paytm has removed a feature called ‘Paytm Inbox’ from its app. The company has however denied this development in its response to a query by Inc42.
While the digital payments company has taken down a chat feature from its app, a Paytm spokesperson told Inc42 that Paytm Inbox continues to exist and is getting upgraded with new social features.
“We are adding features around non-transactional use cases/content etc. So far, the response has been very positive and we are doubling down on the same,” Paytm said.
On December 2, CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma tweeted that Paytm has taken off its chat feature from the Paytm app on a temporary basis.
The company said that it will soon upgrade its the code and bring the chat feature back. However, no specific deadline has been shared for this by the company.
What Is Paytm Inbox?
The Paytm Inbox feature allows users to chat with their friends and family on the platform and also request money. The One97 Communications-owned company had launched Paytm Inbox in November 2017.
This year, the company also introduced a spam-proof SMS Inbox as a part of the Paytm Inbox. The service reportedly uses proprietary machine learning (ML) algorithms to differentiate between personal, transactional and promotional messages.
The company has been focusing on its Paytm Inbox feature since early this year and added several new features to the service. In May, it introduced in-app content across categories such as live TV, news, cricket, entertainment videos, and games within the inbox feature.
