Indian government-backed ONDC will reportedly integrate PayNearby’s newly launched meta commerce platform PayNearby Mall to enable easier availability of goods and services in an assisted mode at the last mile.

This integration aims to empower every retailer across its active user base, to benefit from the ecommerce revolution in India. In addition, this will help in democratisation of the access to digital commerce for businesses of all sizes.

Further, the integration will also help the consumers to access goods from local stores at much lower prices than other ecommerce apps.

Commenting on the integration, PayNearby Mall’s founder Anand Kumar Bajaj said that the idea is to empower local sellers and buyers through an user-friendly platform that helps them to buy stuff after comparing prices. This, according to Bajaj, will also upgrade the businesses of the local sellers and help them stay at par with the current business trends.

According to PayNearby, within hours of the new meta commerce platform launch, more than 6000 retailers have upgraded themselves into a mall. Some of the top ordered products through the platform were mobile phones and accessories, home appliances, groceries and textiles while many users searched for two wheelers also on the platform.

ONDC has been on the government’s top agenda these days, as different ministers and bodies have urged all size ecommerce players to join ONDC on several occasions.

Yesterday (May 12), Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Rajesh Kumar Singh said that the idea is not to challenge the existing ecommerce players but to create a healthy competition and end the monopoly of certain companies.

For example, the McChicken Burger from McDonald’s costs INR 109 on ONDC, while Swiggy and Zomato charge INR 285 for the same. The advantage of price and choice over ONDC platform has increased its popularity among the users causing a 500X increase in its daily transactions since January.

Major companies such as Axis Bank, PhonePe, etc have big plans for ONDC. While Axis Bank’s ONDC app is still a plan, PhonePe’s ONDC app Pincode which was launched a month back has already marked over 50K downloads in Bengaluru.

As companies are joining the ONDC platform with separate apps, the government is urging the existing ecommerce apps to join ONDC with their primary platforms and not with their subsidiary apps.
