Nasscom Celebrates Journey Of 25 Years, PM Modi Hails Its Contribution To Deliver Transformation & Innovation

The Indian IT-ITeS industry body, National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) celebrated the journey of 25 years on March 1, 2015 in New Delhi. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the event. Besides, the event was also attended by Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha.

The industry luminaries like NR Narayana Murthy, Founder, Infosys; Azim Premji, Chairman, WIPRO; N. Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD, TCS; R. Chandrasekaran, Executive Vice-Chairman, Cognizant, and Chairman, NASSCOM; BVR Mohan Reddy, Executive Chairman, Cyient, & Vice-Chairman, NASSCOM; and other industry leaders were also present at the event.

Speaking about the ceremony and remarkable achievements attained by the NASSCOM, R Chandrashekhar, President, NASSCOM, said that, “NASSCOM’s contribution in changing the face of the industry has been unparalleled. It has been committed to work proactively and encourage members to adopt world class management practices, build and uphold highest quality standards and become globally competitive. And now with Government’s focus on digitization, the industry is now ready and willing to participate in the ambitious Digital India journey and support the government in executing this program.”

Addressing at the NASSCOM event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the contribution of the organisation and its remarkable achievement in delivering transformation and innovation in the country. “IT changed the way the world looks at India. IT is in everything, shopping, banking, everything. Everyone under 18 has only one guru, Google guru,” Modi said.

Referring to the event’s theme IT = India Tomorrow, he said there was immense potential for the Indian IT sector to innovate and provide mobile applications to deliver citizen centric services and mobile governance. Speaking on the Digital India initiative, the PM said e-governance also implies easy governance, and economical governance. He said Government is building IT infrastructure, and would adopt innovations by the IT industry. Talking about digital databases, he said the world would need “digital godowns” in the near future and digital divide in India needs to be eliminated.

PM Modi also expressed deep concern over cyber security threats and urged for a possible solution if can be formulated to overcome the menace of cyber security. He also said that ideas from the public will be invited for developing a mobile app for his office (PMO) to make it mobile friendly for citizens. He also launched the NASSCOM Innovate for India Challenge, to encourage innovation in the sector.

The event also witnessed the felicitation ceremony of people for their support and contribution to NASSCOM and IT Industry. Atul Gupta- Founder and CEO of InSync Tech Fin Solutions was felicitated by R Chandrasekaran for his contribution to the NASSCOM Product Council East Region and his initiative in bridging the gap between the IT Industry and the academia. Other members of the council were also felicitated by the NASSCOM Chairman.

Respresenting the startup community Kunal Bahl of Snapdeal, Swati Bhargava of Cashkaro, Vijay Shekhar Sharma of One97, Prukalpa Sankar of Social Cops and Naveen Tewari of Inmobi were also present at the event.
