Ride-hailing platform Namma Yatri has now debuted its cab-hailing services in its home city Bengaluru.
Namma Yatri’s app now shows a separate section for booking cabs on its app in Bengaluru. With this, the platform has now moved beyond just offering auto rides to its customers in the city. Apart from Bengaluru, Namma Yatri also offers cab aggregator services in Kochi, Kolkata and Chennai.
The development comes close on the heels of the platform embarking on an expansion spree across the country. In January this year, Namma Yatri entered the Chennai and Delhi markets to offer auto rides to customers.
Last month, the platform’s parent Juspay Technologies also launched a new ride-hailing app ‘Mana Yatri’ in Hyderabad to offer both auto and cab services in the city.
Earlier this month, it was reported that parent Juspay hived off the ride-hailing subsidiary, Namma Yatri, and other mobility apps into a separate independent entity, Moving Tech Innovations, in November last year.
Overall, the Namma Yatri family of apps boasts more than 2.1 Lakh drivers, 50 Lakh customers, and has completed 2.7 Cr+ trips as of March 2024. It claims to be already a prominent player in seven cities, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
Recently, the ride-hailing platform also inked a strategic partnership with Google Maps and ONDC to further enhance public transport services in India.
Developed by Juspay and backed by Nandan Nilekani’s Beckn Foundation, the Namma Yatri app was launched in late 2022. Envisaged to compete with giants such as Ola and Uber, Namma Yatri was one of the platforms to pitch a daily subscription model instead of charging a commission on every transaction.
As more and more auto drivers flocked to the new platform, ride-hailing giants Ola and Uber also began offering subscription-based plans for auto-rickshaw drivers earlier this month.
While it remains to be seen how well the expansion spree bodes for Juspay and Namma Yatri, there is no denying that the competition in the Indian ride-hailing space has picked up. At the heart of this fight is the homegrown ride-hailing space which is projected to soar to a market size of $7.36 Bn by 2028.
