Bangalore-based assessment conduct and reporting platform Learning Outcomes has been acquired by Liga Edutech for an undisclosed amount. Learning Outcomes was cofounded by Rishi Kar (IIT-Madras) and Aditya Kulkarni (Bits-Pilani & IIM-Bangalore) in 2011. The startup, backed by Morpheus Accelerator had raised seed funding from Aakrit Vaish (co-founder of Haptik), Miten Sampat (Times Internet).

Learning Outcomes has built an assessment conduct and reporting platform on tablets to help institutes successfully gauge and improve their students’ learning process. It captures granular data from routine school assessments and then analyses it to present the story behind the grade.

Instead of reporting  students’ grade, they focus on highlighting the skills developed in that subject, personalizing the concept pathway for the child and helping the child focus on the areas where he/she can improve the most. The startup aims to create a better assessments in schools, and ensure that parents, students and teachers understand and become more aware of the learning process.

In 2013, it had launched its own online diagnostic content that is built from the ground up by analyzing the misconceptions and teaching gaps captured by the system. The assessments has  in-built remedial content and can identify accurately the exact gap in the thinking process if the  student’s answer is wrong. This has been especially successful for standard III to VIII, as per the company.

The startup has worked with over 35 schools across Seven  cities and  charged an annual subscription fee per student which is inclusive of cost for hardware and software.

On the other side, based in Bangalore, Liga Edutech, founded by Naren Koduvattat (ex Infosys VP and Business Head), Jayashree Krishna (co-founder of TalentQuest, ex IBM L&D head) and Vaikunt Prabhu (ex leadership team of ICICI bank)  has raised Series A round of funding from Gana Yantrika Systems (Anant Pandit, Shrikant Pandit)

LIGA address the growing emphasis on Co-Scholastic assessment and behavioral development of students. In most of the schools co-scholastic assessment is looked at from a mere recording and documentation perspective. Therefore, to remove the drudgery and bring in involvement from both the teachers as well as the students, Liga provides fun and engaging activities for teachers on tablets.

The activities are built on the proprietary Social Behavior Framework (SoBeTM) developed in collaboration with National Institute of Advanced Studies and Banjara Academy. The activities are deep linked with rubrics and outcomes as mandated by the National Curriculum Framework and CBSE.

The startup has worked with about 30,000 students in over 50 schools across 5 states and charged subscription fee per student.

“Learning Outcomes has always focused on the scholastic and the academic side of learning/teaching while Liga was laser focused on the behavioural and the co-scholastic aspect of development. We met the founders of Liga during our sales call in a school while we were both being made to wait outside the principal’s office!!! We started talking and realised that the inherent synergies of the two businesses were unmistakable.

Aditya and I continue to believe in the power of outcome analytics driving the learning experience and also believe that when coupled with behavioural data from Liga, actual remediation and reasons for learning gaps can be uncovered,” said Aakrit Vaish on the acquisition.

Post acquisition, five member team of Learning Outcomes will be moving to Liga.
