Singapore based, Jungle Ventures has invested $400k in Scrollback, a startup that hosts chat rooms for communities to connect, communicate, confer and collaborate. The round also saw participation of Singapore’s National Research Foundation under the Technology Incubation Schem, Crystal Horse Investments, Singapore Angel Network and Roland Turner.

Scrollback aims at transforming the user experience for online communities by combining the ease and engagement of chat with content organization of forums. Through Scrollback’s apps on web and Android, users can create chat rooms on their topics of interest and have immersive conversations with like-minded people.

Founded back in 2013 by IIT Kharagpur graduates Aravind Ravi-Sulekha and Gaurav Srivastav, Scrollback plans to use the raised funds to reach out to a greater number of forums.

Aravind Ravi-Sulekha, co-founder, explained the motivation behind Scrollback, “Most online platforms today are about connecting you with friends and family in new ways. Online platforms from a decade ago, like web forums and IRC chat rooms, focussed on forming communities by connecting you with strangers who share your interests. Scrollback aims to bring that sense of community to the modern era. We aim to become the discussion platform of choice for every online community.”

The startup was incubated at the Joyful Frog Digital Incubator in Singapore.

“We are quite excited about the disruptive potential of Scrollback. Forums are probably the last frontier to get a Web 3.0 makeover and Scrollback has the right design and social elements to be a winner in the space,” said Amit Anand, managing partner at Jungle Ventures.

In last one year Scrollback has expanded its presence to over 700 communities in America, Europe and Asia.
