The Indian startup ecosystem in India is growing by leaps and bounds and Inc42 has been fortunate enough to be an integral part of it. As we move forward in our mission of cementing our place in the Indian startup ecosystem, we are introducing a new weekly Jobs series where we’ll connect you to a few open job positions every week from some of the best startups in India.

So, What’s New, You May Ask!

Advertising an open position to attract the best talent is an art which most startups are unaware of. Most companies fail to spend quality time on writing a job description which reflects the company’s values and culture. And we constantly see employers copying job descriptions from other companies and expecting to find the best talent in the market. Doesn’t work that way. Blind leading the blind will lead both of them to the nearest ditch.

This precise problem and multiple requests from many of you led us to start this series. This is aimed at giving the candidates a holistic picture of where they’re going to spend a majority of their time in the future and if it’s worth making a move. Of course, the salary package matters but it won’t do you any good if you don’t fit into the culture of the startup.

With the Inc42 Jobs newsletter, we have curated the best positions in startups, along with the details that matter to you – because we know, startups are an adventure requiring juggling multiple skills.

So, here are this week’s Startup Jobs.

POSist Technologies Pvt Ltd

POSist is one of the first movers to provide a complete online PoS solution to the online restaurants. Based out of New Delhi, POSist was founded in September 2011 by Ashish Tulsian along with his wife Sakshi Tulsian. Being a technocrat and restaurateur himself, Ashish came up with the idea of POSist when he faced troubles while running his own restaurant.

The company is a pioneer in cloud-based Restaurant Technology Platform. The SaaS platform basically helps restaurant owners manage their single restaurants as well as chains along the lines of day to day functions like Billing, CRM, Inventory Control, Recipe and Wastage management, Centralised Menu Management, Vendor Management and more.

The USP of the solution is its user friendliness, and a ‘no-training required’ user interface which saves high attrition restaurant industry from staff training time and cost incurred. Real-time mobile reporting helps a restaurant owner keep a close watch on his business.

It also provides additional applications like accounting softwares, CRMs, hotel suites and even ERP back ends like SAP and more. Not only this, the company is also known as a leading POS platform for F&B industry of India – one among the top 13 Indian Startup offices.

The company is bootstrapped to date and, as of now, has a customer base of 3,000+ in over 82 cities and five countries. Its top three competitors are Shawman, GoFrugal, and Micro.

The company provides a transparent & fun work culture with a young progressive team of enthusiastic and passionate professionals, working towards a common organisational goal. The company has one of the coolest offices with vibrant colours and looks lively and lovely (And we mean it, check out the interiors here). With regular working hours (9:30 AM – 6: 30 PM), and two Saturdays off in a month, POSist rewards its team members with Quarterly Appraisals, Flexible work timings, Frequent Parties, a Mini Sports Hub and more. Also, it provides industry standard salary packages ranging from INR 4 Lakhs to INR 20 Lakhs w.r.t the job profile.

At present, POSist is hiring for three positions. 

Position: Business Analyst

Experience: 2+ years

Location: New Delhi

Roles & Responsibilities: As a Business Analyst at POSist, you would be working on requirement gathering, analysis, testing, and maintenance. Plus, you would work closely with the design & development teams to explain requirements for new features and change requests for current features. You will be further in charge of competitor analysis, market analysis, product analysis, business cases, product evolution, GAP analysis, impact analysis, feature prioritisation & high level requirement gathering. As an added responsibility, a Business Analyst needs to prepare documentation like BRD, FRS, FRD, SRS & SRD; along with use cases and test cases. Knowhow of industry-standard tools such as JIRA, Zoho and Visio is a must.

Desired Skills & Expertise: To apply for the role, candidates should have a minimum of 1.2+ years experience in similar role. They should be a technical graduate with good communication skills with knowledge of SDLC and MS Office. Experience in different types of testing (SIT, UAT), POS, as well as an exposure to mobile and web-based products will be a plus.

Position: Corporate Sales

Location: Delhi/Mumbai/Bengaluru

Roles & Responsibilities: The core task in Corporate Sales would require the team member to sell cloud-based POS software to hotels & restaurants. The salesperson would need to handle inbound, prospect calls and convert them into sales. Fixing and delivering online/offline product demos and sales representations along with a smart follow-up mechanism resulting in deal closures will be a major part of the day to day work. You will also be expected to participate in sales & marketing activities, seminars & conferences, representing the company for brand awareness and even provide suggestions to make up sales & marketing strategies. Finding out ways to generate new leads, maintaining the database of prospect clients of the company are other requisites.

Desired Skills & Expertise: Any Graduate/Post Graduate/MBA with experience in selling high ticket ERP solutions and establishing and maintaining relationships at CXO level in a customer organization can apply for the role. The company is looking for a good team player and quick learner who has earlier demonstrated leadership and is comfortable with CRM, Email marketing, and Analytical tools. Experience as a Sales/Business Development Professional involved in Sales in the IT Services industry with proven track record and achievement of sales targets within stipulated expense/budgets will be an added advantage. The position requires experience with customer identification, call planning, account management, nd closing work along with Interpersonal, Communication and Presentation skills. The applicant should be well versed in English, Hindi or any local language).

Position: Full Stack Engineer

Experience: 2 – 7 years

Location: New Delhi

Desired Skills & Expertise: The applicant should have experience with JavaScript (AngularJS, NodeJS, BackboneJS), MongoDB and MySQL (or any NoSQL databases), Test Driven Development along with RESTful APIs that read and write JSON. Additional experience in building large-scale, high-performance SaaS-based cloud computing systems with hands-on HTML5, HTML, CSS, AJAX, JSON, REST etc is a plus.

Personal Attributes: Confidence to manage teams and drive them towards a common goal with high energy level, excellent teamwork and ability to deliver on deadlines.

startup-jobsSquad (Formerly Squadrun)

Squad, is an enterprise SaaS startup that leverages the best of machines and humans to automate digital operations/ business processes for enterprises. It is one of the few applications of AI/ Machine Learning that actually has a massive market. Based out of Noida, the work automation startup for business enterprises was founded by Apurv Agrawal along with Kanika Jain and Vikas Gulati in 2014. While Apurv and Kanika share a bond from their days in Coworking startup 91springboard, Vikas is an alum of the prestigious Vellore Institute of Technology.

Squad uses a workflow engine that breaks down business processes in an efficient manner. This helps businesses scale with unprecedented SLAs of speed, accuracy, flexibility, and cost. This further provide them better moderation, deep data attribution, search, recommendations, customer onboarding, and insights, resulting in higher conversions and improved user experience. On average, the company claims to have reduced turnaround time by 5x, handled volume spikes of over 6x, and reduced costs by over 70%, all while maintaining SLAs for accuracy. With time, Squad has also been able to automate over 30% of the work.

The company also helps businesses crowdsource operational problems with a  mobile workforce (college students, young professionals, housewives, etc.), that’s screened, skill-matched, trained, and monitored for high-quality task outputs.

Squad’s current clientele includes prominent brands such as Uber, Sephora, Tata Group, Flipkart Group, Rocket Internet Group, Teespring and other data-intensive businesses. The company has also received interest from industries like Banking and Financial Services, Insurance, Telecom, and Information Services to automate similar workflows which is the heart of outsourcing and a $180 Bn+ market, annually.

The startup turned profitable last year and opened an office in San Francisco. The company was listed in ‘Inc’s Top 30 Emerging Companies of 2017’ in less than five months of moving to the US. Also, it recently raised $2.1 Mn funding from India and Silicon Valley investors. A few in the list included Gokul Rajaram, Product Engineering Lead at Square; Shamik Sharma, Senior Technology Advisor at Myntra, Blume Ventures, 91springboard, Anthill Ventures, and others. Its top three competitors are Mighty AI, Crowdflower, and WorkFusion.

With a well-balanced team of 35 vibrant, multi-tasking professionals, Squad now plans to grow 10x in the next 1.5 years. The company supports an open office culture with zero politics, and flat hierarchy, thereby fostering the ownership and accountability in each of its team members. The founders’ value frugality which is showcased in the company’s office space – equipped with the essentials without being unnecessarily opulent. Even the furniture is made from repurposed rubber wood crates (check it out here).

With no fixed working hours and giving each ‘Squad’ its own common hours, the company offers a 5.5 Day/120% workweek, wherein the extra 20% of a Squad’s time is spent upskilling through various courses/talks held on Saturdays. Salary packages are as per industry standards w.r.t the job profiles. Also, as an additional perk, the entire team gets free free food in office (Breakfast, lunch, Dinner).

At present, Squad is hiring for three positions.

Position: Design Lead

Experience: 4-5 Years.

Location: Noida

Roles & Responsibilities: An experienced design leader who can help create the SquadRun experience across multiple channels (Desktop and Mobile Web, Android App) – both in terms of creating an incredibly simple and intuitive user experience, as well as common visual language for all our properties. Also requires the ability to work closely with company’s worker partner (supply) base – to make them more efficient, more capable and more productive – by creating a seamless product interface, developing UI/UX and deploying tools.

As a Design Lead, the person will work closely with stakeholders to help generate product and feature possibilities based on user needs and business requirements. You will need to create designs at different stages of the product development lifecycle, such as user experience flows, wireframes, sketches, and interactive prototypes and eventually create high-resolution mockups and design assets.

The Design Leader will be responsible to help develop a wide array of digital assets such as web / mobile web / Android app designs, animated videos and product GIFs, Powerpoint decks for sales and marketing, printed collateral such as business cards and brochures, icon design, etc. The candidate will have to work closely with developers on the final feature or product, right from the conceptualisation stage to release. They will have to structure the app interface (UI and UX) to ensure a smooth journey for contractors and increase contractor efficiency and productivity and build out better tools for the same.

Desired Skills & Expertise: He/She is expected to always be an advocate for the end user, pushing for and thinking about the most meaningful user experience possible. The Design Lead should believe in promoting ease of adoption and onboarding through targeted experimentation, at the same time creating and/or evaluating training modules to facilitate in-platform learning & development. Driving increased engagement on the platform through regular updates, better frameworks etc., collaborating with the Marketing team to create powerful graphics and visuals for our Website, Mobile App, Decks, Case Studies, Blog, Social Media, GIFs and Videos, Printed Media, etc. will be an added advantage.

In order to apply for the role, the applicant must have excellent Design Skills and an extensive portfolio (Dribbble, Behance, etc.) that demonstrates his/her capabilities. A relevant work experience of atleast 4-5 years in a graphic design and UX capacity is required with an educational background in a design field such as HCI, Graphic Design, or Interaction Design. However, the company is open to other backgrounds and disciplines if one has design chops.

Position: Machine Learning Lead

Experience: Minimum 4 Years

Location: Noida

Roles & Responsibilities: A Machine Learning Lead would need to apply the best machine learning techniques to various aspects of business process automation and help businesses perform operational work with 10X efficiency (cost, speed, quality) than existing alternatives. For example, catalogue management for commerce, content moderation for social businesses, training for AI algorithms, customer onboarding for banking and insurance etc. One of the biggest challenges lies in shaping the product which can have flexible modules that can come together to scale most major workflows. Matching the right data problem with the right algorithm solution is a time-consuming puzzle. Building an automated model selection system will be an exciting problem as well.

The applicant must have an entrepreneurial mindset with the right mix of experience, drive, creativity, and cultural fit to help the company realise its vision of ‘reimagining how work gets done.’ The team is essentially looking for a partner who is excited about this problem and would want to co-build Squad with them.

The candidate would closely work on building start-of-the-artwork automation pipelines for Squad’s platform product. He must possess know-how of workforce management – to acquire, qualify, match, train and verify / Quality Control; Workflow engine – to replicate each business process smartly with different configurations and Work automation (SquadAI)- to help contractors by automating part of the workflows and ‘Humans ’in the loop machine learning to automate cognitive decisions once we have enough quality training data.

Desired Skills & Expertise: A Machine Learning Lead would be responsible to architect & build the work automation product layer right from the scratch by working closely with the platform engineering team. He/She will also be responsible for defining the long-term data science platform product roadmap with a focus on a strong platform layer foundation. As a Machine Learning lead, the person has to collaborate closely with engineering, business operations & product teams and leverage the expertise in devising appropriate measurements and metrics, designing randomised controlled experiments, architecting business intelligence tooling and tackling hard, open-ended problem, etc. Facilitating data-driven experiments to derive product insights, identifying new opportunities to leverage data science to different parts of the Squad platform and building a sharp data science team and culture will be the added responsibilities of the role.

The applicant must have a minimum experience of four years working with data intensive problems at scale from inception to business impact. They must also have experience with modelling techniques such as generalised linear models, cluster analysis, random forests, boosting, decision trees, time series, neural networks & deep learning. Further experience is also required in using programming (Python/R/Scala) and SQL languages in analytical contexts, dealing with large datasets, and with distributed machine learning and computing framework (Spark, Mahout or equivalent). Strong communication and documentation skills, advanced degree in a relevant field (preferred) and Enterprise product experience would be a big plus!

Position: Engineering Lead

Experience: 4+ Years In Building Products And 2+ Years Experience Leading Teams

Location: Noida

Roles & Responsibilities: An experienced engineer who enjoys solving real world problems & building a strong engineering culture. As a Technical Lead, the candidate will be expected to understand and drive the technical direction of the product or company. This involves anticipating required skills and knowledge in advance, fill gaps, both in the short-term by taking on distractions and in the long-term by mentoring engineers to take up new challenges. The applicant should also have a skill set to develop, update, and advocate the technical direction of the platform product.

In his role as an Engineering Lead, the applicant would work closely with business, operations, engineering and product teams to understand business requirements, product functionality & product roadmap. They will act as a lead engineer and resolve blockers and will help engineering team stay productive. The Engineering Lead would be expected to understand the business vision of Squad, architect for scale and choose the right building blocks which accelerate the SquadRun vision. They will also have to architect reliable data pipelines that are simple to operate.

Desired Skills & Expertise: His current skills stack must include Django/Python, Postgresql, RabbitMQ, Redis, AngularJS, AWS EC2/RDS/Lambda/Elasticache/S3 etc. Taking active part in code reviews and design reviews, mentoring engineers in the team with regular feedback to ensure continuous improvement and actively participating in hiring procedures will be the added role responsibilities.  The applicant for the role must have  4+ years experience building products along with a 2+ years experience architecting/designing systems from ground-up & leading engineering teams. Candidates should be a graduate in a relevant domain (preferably) with an added trait of being an Executor and willingness to go that extra mile.
