Internet Users In India: Mumbai Tops The Charts, Bangalore Comes in 4th

IAMAI has recently concluded a report stating the number of internet users in the Indian cities. According to the report, Mumbai with 16.4 Mn internet users is the top city with most internet users, followed by Delhi with 12.15 Mn internet users and Kolkata with 6.27 Mn internet users.

Bangalore with 5.99 Mn internet users and Chennai with 5.58 Mn internet users are fourth and fifth respectively. In 2013, Mumbai had 12 Mn internet users, while Delhi had 8.1 Mn internet users. There were 4.7 Mn internet users in Kolkata in 2013, while Bangalore had 4.4 Mn internet users and Chennai had 4.5 Mn internet users.

With 50% y-o-y growth, Delhi however registered the highest growth of internet users among all the top cities in India.

Overall, the top 4 metros have a 23% penetration of Internet Users in India. The other 4 Metros have 11% penetration of Internet Users, with Bangalore registering the highest growth.

Among the smaller metros with a population of more than 1 Mn, Surat, Jaipur, Lucknow, Vadodara and Nagpur are the top five cities with highest number of internet users.

The small metros constitute 11% of the overall internet users in India, with top five small metros comprising 6% of the total Internet users in India.
