A programme staged with an entrepreneurial uproar, a camaraderie of domain owners and investors and aspiring young entrepreneurs, the very first World Domain Day came out to be a massive success. It was organised by Indian Domain Owners Association (IDOA), a consortium of web entrepreneurs, domain owners and service providers from India, which was hosted on 24th of August 2014 in Hyderabad.

The focal point of WDD was to educate the participants about domain names and online entrepreneurship. 325 professionals were present to attend the programme from various spheres of life – industrialists, doctors, lawyers and even tattoo artists. WDD made young entrepreneurs foresee the future of online business.

Patricja Krol and Dildeep Singh from the world’s largest domain marketplace, SEDO, began the day with the deliverance of a 20 minutes long speech. The audience was grasped in awe by the pair. They mainly spoke about the importance of domain names for a successful international business online.

Mike Mann, who is considered as the most successful domain investors ever, also made his presentation through video conference. Mike has founded and mentored Grassroots.org, Phone.com, SEO.com, Skateboards.com, DomainMarket.com, Yield Software, BrowserMedia, Graphics.net and others.

The Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Govind, CEO of National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), and the other member of ICANN-GAC from India reported from WDD as well. He notified that GOI is initiating domain names in Indian languages and the new extension of .bharat in seven Indian languages. But questions were raised as how relevant will an Indian language domain name be in the international market? why are .in domains not available for resale like almost all other domain extensions?

The Chinese Masterclass was conducted by Simon Cousins and Arto Isokoski who spoke of investing in Chinese IDN’s. They claimed over 20% of the world population spoke in Chinese and did not prefer to do business in English.

The issues of Intellectual Property law, its protections, violations and infringements were discussed during the legal session by Pavan Duggal to explain the rights of the domainers.

CEO of Axsiom and WDD itself, Prakhar Bindal took over the stage at the end of event. He conducted a remarkable session on the evaluation of domain price and which domains to invest in.
