Projecting AI infrastructure growth in India, NVIDIA’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang today (October 24) said that by the end of this year, India will have nearly 20 times more computing infrastructure than a year ago.

Huang was addressing the NVIDIA AI Summit 2024 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

The growth comes on the back of NVIDIA’s partnership with Yoda, VTE, and Tonic Communication to build computing infrastructure in the country.

Besides, Huang also pointed out that the first part of building an AI ecosystem is the AI infrastructure, which is followed by the operating system of AI is large language models.

Around building LLM models in Indian languages, he added that this is the hardest language model region in the world, mainly because of India’s linguistic diversity.

Huang further noted that the company has been collaborating with local partners to develop a Hindi LLM.

“We have worked with partners here to make Hindi large langugae model…This is the hardest language model in the world. If India can figure out how to make a large Hindi language model then anything can be done,” Huang said in his speech.

It is interesting to note that Huang also commented on the several uses of artificial intelligence around data translation. These use cases range from language-to-language translation to image-to-text translation to the use of data for drug discovery.

He further added that several startups have emerged across the globe leveraging this data translation.

Underlining the significance of India For NVIDIA, Huang further noted that the company has already partnered with over 2000 Indian startups since its inception. Its partners include Zoho, Flipkart, alongside Krutrim and Sarvam AI on the Indian language LLM front.

Besides, other companies like Tata Communications, Reliance Industries, and Yotta Data Services are already using NVIDIA’s technology to build their computing infrastructure.

In collaboration with the startups on the healthcare startup front, the company is working with SinTuple and CureFit to improve health outcomes through AI.

Notably, NVIDIA is identifying India as its key market, driven by the country’s booming AI demand. Not to mention, the country has become a leader in the adoption of AI applications, accounting for 21% of global AI app downloads.

India has over 100 GenAI startups that have raised more than $600 Mn since 2019. Some of the leading GenAI startups include SarvamAI and Krutrim, which are building Indic LLMs, and ObserveAI, which uses AI to offer customer support to businesses. Inc42 projects that the Indian GenAI market will grow to over $17 Bn by 2030.
