The Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIM-U) has launched a full-time one year masters in business administration (MBA) programme in Digital Enterprise Management (DEM). The MBA programme, a first of its kind,  looks to train managers and leaders to work in the fast-changing and emerging digital business enterprises where conventional management concepts and leadership styles no longer apply.

The first batch is commencing in 2020 and the residential program is open for admission through GMAT/GRE for working professionals with a graduate degree as well as three years and above of work experience.

The first round of online application starts from September 7, 2019, IIM Udaipur said. The academic fees for the program has been fixed at INR 15.8 Lakhs.

The DEM program will provide students with an opportunity to develop a working knowledge of emerging technologies and acclaimed practices as the course curriculum is prepared in consultation with the industry experts. For this, the institute has set up an academic advisory board for developing this new program. The board constitutes of founders of successful digital companies in the country like Quikr’s Pranay Chuley and Info Edge India Ltd.’s Hitesh Oberoi.

Senior leaders from leading consulting companies including Ganesan Ramachandran (Accenture) and Kamesh Mullapudi (Deloitte) are also part of the board. Nitin Bawankule (Google) and Sreejit Roy (IBM) bring the expertise of the technology companies. K Harishankar (Unilever) brings in expertise in digital transformational initiatives from the CPG world while Ravi Vijayaraghavan (Flipkart) brings in expertise in use of analytics in solving real-life business problems, are also members of the advisory board.

“The way technology is changing the world, future careers are going to be quite different than what we see today. At IIM Udaipur, we don’t just want our students to prepare for this change but welcome it. The DEM program would cater to the needs of emerging digital business enterprises and the aspirants,” said Pankaj Patel, Chairman, IIM Udaipur.

According to Janat Shah, director of IIM Udaipur, the B-school has already entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with several leading companies across business verticals for collaboration for sharing and development of knowledge in the digital world.

Internet companies are now commanding a prime spot in the race for campus placements in India. Flipkart, Amazon and Swiggy are reportedly seeking college graduates with a grasp of new technologies at the country’s engineering and management schools.

Quikr, Simplilearn, Droom, Tork Motors and others, have stepped up hiring freshers with an emphasis on data science, product management, design, full stack, iOS and Android development roles. Walmart-owned Flipkart, one of the top recruiters at engineering and B-school campuses, will increase hiring of fresh graduates by 40-50% this year.

Aggressive hiring by startups during campus placements is a far cry from earlier times when many of them were banned from recruiting through campus hiring. In 2016, All India Placement Committee (AIPC), banned nearly 31 startups from conducting campus placements in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
