Mumbai-based BedBathMore has acquired art based startup Crude Area for an undisclosed amount. This is BedBathMore’s second acquisition coming in just small span of time. Last month it acquired Mumbai-based Homado, a marketplace for interior designers and architects.

Crude Area was founded in 2012 by Nidhi Dewan and Shweta Bhandari. The startup had raised undisclosed amount in angel funding in 2013 led by Sidharth Rao and Sudesh Samaria, founders of Webchutney and two others.

The startup has over 120 artists from across the world. Crude Area claims to have about 1,000 artworks, an community of 8,000 buyers and sells 500 orders a month on average.

“That attracted me to Crude Area to begin with. We realised that adaptability of the concept to curated furniture, cushions, etc. was waiting to happen. I also loved the team,” said Amit Dalmia, founder of BedBathMore on the acquisition.

Post acquisition Crude Area founders and a team of five will be joining BedBathMore.
