One of the leading engineering services company, Larsen & Toubro Technology Services Limited (LTTS), has developed the world’s first cost-effective robotic endo-training kit. For this innovation in robotics, the Vadodara-based company was felicitated at an event organised by the Global Innovation and Technology Alliance (GITA).
Notably, LTTS has developed this robotic endo-training kit in participation from the department of science and technology (DST) and GITA. The research and development for the robotic endo-training kit have been a joint effort between India and the Republic of Korea. Dr Ramalingam, who excels in laparoscopic urology, has been a guide and mentor since the inception of the project and was instrumental in making it a success.
What Is Robotic Endo-Training Kit
LTTS’ robotic endo-training kit is a surgical training robot, which provides a high-definition observation of the patient’s anatomy. The live feed of the anatomy is broadcasted on a screen which leverages virtual reality technology.
For providing this precision in the observation of human’s anatomy, the device uses instruments such as master tool manipulator, patient side manipulator, endoscopic camera arm. LTTS claims that the instruments have a seven-degree range of movements to improve the precision of surgical techniques.
Since the kit is cost-effective, LTTS expects that it can be used by many hospitals, including the smaller clinics, to train surgeons on inanimate material. The kit, because of its low price, is expected to be used by hospitals in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Muralidhara Hosahalli, global head of medical and life sciences at LTTS said that the robotic endo-training kit is a state-of-the-art technology that offers superior vision, improved flexibility, greater accuracy and ergonomic support to surgeons. “Evolving technology is the need of the hour and LTTS’ robotic endo-trainer kit helps surgeons to get trained in carrying out most of the complex operations with great precision, flexibility and power as compared to conventional methods,” he was quoted as saying by Outlook.
According to a market intelligence report by BIS Research, titled “Global Healthcare Robotics Market – Analysis and Forecast, 2018-2023”, the global healthcare robotics market was valued at $5.40 Bn in 2017 and is estimated to reach $11.44 Bn by 2025.
Moreover, the global healthcare robotics market is expected to witness a growth rate of 12.64%, during the forecast period from 2018 to 2023. The growth of this market is aided by the impressive increase of healthcare budgetary allocation by governments across the world and private institutes and technological advancements in the robotics industry.
