A professional networking platform, LinkedIn has released its report on the top 10 emerging jobs in India — identifies the fastest growing and, up-and-coming jobs — that saw the largest growth in frequency in years between 2013 and 2017. The report also highlights the skills needed for each role.

“India’s indigenous tech talent has taken several global tech giants to success, hence it is no surprise that India’s top-5 emerging jobs orbit around technology and core technical skills across sectors,” LinkedIn talent and learning solutions vice-president (Asia Pacific) Feon Ang said.

According to Ang, India is set to see the youngest workforce in 2020. “Recruiters and CHROs (Chief human resources officers) will benefit by hiring (candidates) based on skills, instead of previous job titles; and upskiling should be a focus for all organisations, in order to make talent future-ready,” he added.

LinkedIn crossed 50 Mn members in India in July this year, from 3.4 Mn users in 2009.

  • The report estimates; in 2017, India contributed 22% data scientists migrating to Singapore
  • The role is also among the top-5 in Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast, it further says.
  • Over 50% of machine learning professionals in India have a bachelor’s degree and are trained on the job

Here Are The Top 10 Emerging Jobs In India, According To LinkedIn –

Machine learning engineers: These are programmers who develop machines and systems that can learn and apply knowledge without specific direction.

Application development analyst: These are analysts who combine the maintenance of IT services while working face-to-face with users who need their technical know-how and support.

Back-end developer: These are developers who are responsible for server-side web application, logic and integration of the work front-end developers do.

Full-stack engineer: These are engineers who on the front-end uses a combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (coding) to build everything a user sees and interacts with, on a website. On the back-end, they develop applications, server, and database that make up the foundational structure of a website.

Data scientist: Their work includes creating various machine learning-based tools or processes within the company, such as recommendation engines or automated lead scoring systems.

Customer success manager: These managers are responsible for developing customer relationships that promote retention and loyalty. Their job is to work closely with customers to ensure they are satisfied with the services they receive and to improve upon areas of dissatisfaction.

Digital marketing specialist: They work to increase brand awareness, promote company products or services and to drive prospects to conversions.

Big data developer: A big data developer is a person who creates and manages a company’s Big Data infrastructure and tools; and is someone that knows how to get results from vast amount of data quickly.

Sales recruiter: A sales recruiter is a type of executive headhunter that focuses specifically on the recruitment of specialised sales leadership and management talent.

Python developer: A Python web developer is responsible for developing server-side web application logic.

The LinkedIn report further says: with the increase in-demand for emerging roles, the key will be to upskill talent; and focus on candidate’s skills rather than previous job titles. Transferable skills will be key to adapt to a changing workforce and soft skills will be imperative for success, along with a high aptitude for adaptability, resilience, and entrepreneurial skills.
