HDFC Bank customers reported issues with their bank services as they faced problems while making online transactions through UPI, net banking. As per their complaints on social media platforms, people were also unable to withdraw money from ATMs.

According to online downtime tracker DownDetector, reports of failure at HDFC Bank started around 6PM on Saturday, November 22, and peaked at have been declining since then.

The bank attributed the problem to outage in one of its data centre. India’s largest private sector lender said that it is working on the issue and the services will be restored as soon as possible.

“An unexpected outage at one of our data centers has impacted some of our services. We are working towards restoration of the services, which shouldn’t take long. The inconvenience is sincerely regretted,” HDFC bank said on its official Twitter handle.

However, it did not mention the reason behind the data centre outage.

Customers took to Twitter on Saturday to complain the unavailability of the bank’s internet banking, unified payments interface (UPI) and even debit and credit cards.

Affected customers have been tweeting about issues with the bank website and HDFC app on Twitter. People were not able to receive OTPs, and some even said that ATMs are not working.

Something similar had occurred in December last year when customers complained that they were unable to pay their loan EMIs or settle credit card bills on time.

RBI deputy governor M.K. Jain had said in December that the regulator has taken into account the outage and has deployed a team of experts to investigate the matter. The RBI team will investigate the reasons behind the outage and accordingly give directions to HDFC Bank, Jain had said.

Earlier, in December 2019, HDFC Bank customers could not access the bank’s mobile app and online banking for two days due to a technical glitch.
