As a part of the launch of India’s Good Governance Week portal, a host of District Collectors have identified 3,120 new online delivery services. According to a statement by the government, these 3.1K+ services will be added during the 5-day ‘Prashasan Gaon ki Ore’ campaign.
The campaign will be inaugurated by the union minister Dr Jitendra Singh, where he will also disclose the 81.28 Lakh applications of service delivery alongside disposing of nearly 19.5 Lakh public grievances.
Districts from Madhya Pradesh and Punjab have identified a target of 55.73 Lakh and 21.97 Lakh service delivery applications, respectively. On the other hand, districts from Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have identified 16.67 Lakh and 1.38 Lakh grievances for redressal, respectively.
During the event, the government also plans to inform the public of 373 new good governance practices and share 43 success stories. The ‘Good Governance Week 2022’, also called the ‘Sushasan Saptah’ will be held from 19 to 25 December 2022.
In his message for the campaign, prime minister Narendra Modi said that India has undertaken various citizen-centric initiatives including redressal of public grievances, online services, disposal of service delivery applications and good governance practices, with the vision to expand the outreach of service delivery mechanisms making them more effective.
For the uninitiated, service delivery is an action that meets the needs of citizens. Basically, it is a mechanism, wherein the public institutions identify what members of the public request from government institutions, or the services that the government undertakes to supply to citizens matching their priorities.
While physical services such as schools, roads, transport and healthcare are basic necessities, the digital transformation of rural India has enhanced the need for online delivery of services. These include the delivery of services such as labour and employment, education, water, infra planning, social welfare, tourism and more, through the internet or other electronic means.
While Madhya Pradesh made it to the top of the requests for the Good Governance Week 2022, overall, Rajasthan emerged as the top-ranking state in delivering online services to citizens in 2021. According to a National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment (NeSDA), 2021 report, Rajasthan had an average compliance rate of 76% in delivering e-services.
Aimed at the ‘digital empowerment’ of Indians, online delivery services enhance the execution of duties by government officials, making it easier to meet the basic needs of Indian citizens.
