The Government e-Marketplace has recorded a gross merchandise value (GMV) of INR 4.09 Lakh Cr in the 10 months to January 23, surpassing INR 4 Lakh Cr recorded in the same time a year back.
The commerce ministry said in a press note that in terms of segment-wise progress, services marked 64% of the total GMV with INR 2.54 Lakh Cr, while the product segment brought in 38%, translating to INR 1.55 Lakh Cr of the GMV.
GeM facilitates online procurement of common-use goods and services required by various government departments, organisations, and public sector undertakings (PSUs). The platform provides opportunities to scale up businesses with central and state governments with a seller-friendly dashboard for monitoring orders and payments.
The ministry said that the growth in the services segment has fuelled the marketplace’s upward growth trajectory. Aimed at expanding services on GeM, 19 categories have been introduced on the portal.
The marketplace helps various government bodies in the purchase of specialised services like printing of debit cards, dark fibre leasing, bulk email services, and operations management of data centres from reliable vendors.
Central government entities, including the ministries of coal, power and steel, defence, petroleum and natural gas, were the leading procurers on the platform, contributing to the spike in its GMV in FY25.
As of now, GeM provides direct online access to more than 1.6 Lakh government buyers and over 22.5 Lakh sellers and service providers through a dedicated platform for startups to list their products and services.
