Google Launches Play Games Beta For PC Users In India

Tech giant Google on Friday (July 14) said it has launched the beta version of its video games platform, Play Games, for PC users in India. Indian users eligible for the beta programme would be able to use Google Play Games on their PCs.

According to Google, Google Play Games on PC allows users to play mobile games on their PCs. As such, users can play AAA+ mobile titles on their PCs, including the likes of BGMI, Call of Duty Mobile, Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, among others.

Players participating in the beta launch can play mobile games across their phones, tablets, Chromebooks and PCs, Google said. Earlier, users had to download an Android emulator like BlueStacks on their PCs to play Android games. 

“Last year, we launched Google Play Games on PC to enable players to experience immersive and seamless cross-platform gameplay. We have been offering this as a beta experience to gather early feedback so we can continue improving the product to fit the needs of players and developers around the world,” wrote Arjun Dayal, director of product at Google Play Games, in a blog post.

Besides India, Google has expanded the Beta programme in 60 new regions, taking the total tally to 120 regions where Google Play Games is available for PCs. However, Inc42 could not access the beta version till the time of publishing this story.

According to Google Play Games, the beta product would allow users to download, browse and play mobile games on their PCs, allowing users to take advantage of larger screens and improved controls with mouse and keyboard inputs.

For now, the tech giant is inviting Indian game developers to partner with them for optimising their games for PCs as well. Currently, Google said it has acquired popular Indian titles such as Ludo King and Hitwicket Games.

“Over the past months, we have added multiple new features like keyboard remapping and lowered the minimum PC spec requirements to make Google Play Games more widely available and customisable for our users,” added Google.

The tech giant stated that as work on the full release continues, it would continue to add new features and evaluate developer and player feedback.

India is the largest international market for Google in terms of users and the tech giant has been focused on India, launching new services for the market.

Earlier this week, the tech behemoth integrated UPI Lite into Google Pay, one of the top three UPI apps in the country by transaction count and value. Google also introduced support for multiple Indian languages in its generative AI chatbot, Bard.
