Tech giant Google on Thursday (October 19) launched a new programme called DigiKavach to combat online financial frauds in India.
As part of this initiative, Google said it is studying the methods and modus operandi of scammers and also developing and implementing countermeasures to new emerging scams.
Besides, the company will also share these insights with experts and its partners to create a safer and more secure digital ecosystem, protect people from scams, malware, and online fraud.
Google has partnered the Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE) as a priority flagger to combat predatory digital lending apps on Play Store in the country.
“As a priority flagger, FACE will support Google with market intelligence to inform detection and enable swift action against personal loan apps in India non-compliant with Play Store’s policies,” Google said.
To provide holistic online safety for Indian internet users, Google’s philanthrophic arm, Google.org, has also announced a new $4 Mn grant to CyberPeace Foundation.
The grant will be used to equip about 40 Mn citizens with skills to fight misinformation and help them with digital literacy.
“Whether it’s in fact-checking information before sharing it, or refraining from sharing unverified news, we all play an important role in building a web that is a safe and inclusive space for everyone,” said Vineet Kumar, founder of CyberPeace Foundation. “Through this initiative, we’re committing to help internet users across India become informed, empowered and responsible netizens leading through conversations and actions.”
