Indian music streaming portal, Gaana.com, has announced its partnership with The Orchard, a pioneering music, film and video distribution company. Over 7Mn Indie songs have been included in Gaana’s catalogue via this partnership, exclusively for India, taking the total catalogue size to 10Mn songs.
New York-based, The Orchard was founded by Richard Gottehrer in 1997. It is a music distribution, marketing and sales company for artists and labels to distribute content to digital and mobile outlets. Company operates in more than 25 global markets, amplifying reach and revenue across the world through hundreds of digital, physical and mobile partnerships internationally. Artists they work with range from legendary Rockers Toto, Metal gods Slayer and rising Indie duo Say Lou Lou. Popular Indian indie acts include Raghu Dixit, Soulmate, Dhruv Ghanekar and Blackstratblues. The Orchard was recently acquired by Sony in March, 2015.
Commenting on the partnership, Brad Navin, CEO of The Orchard, said, “Bringing our quality catalogue to local listeners and extending our labels’ brands in the region is the perfect representation of what we’re about: using technology and relationships to bring music to engaged consumers wherever they are in the world.”
According to the current figures, Gaana.com has 15 Mn+ app downloads and over 12Mn registered users.
